Bendel Insurance FC of Benin are in a moment of ecstasy and excitement over their Saturday away victory in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom, over their Nigeria National League (NNL) counterparts, Ibom Youths.
Bendel Insurance boosted their chance of returning to the Nigerian apex league through a 2-1 victory in their week 18 match of the second division league.
The third away victory for the Benin Arsenal, as Insurance are fondly called by their fans and supporters, has kept the club at the summit of the Southern Conference Group BI table of the NNL.
A statement by Kehinde Osagiede, Media Officer of the club on Sunday in Benin, said the team’s determination from the blast of the whistle, paid off in the sixth minute when unmarked Stephen Adodo headed home a free-kick by Dede Muoghara.
Chibuzo Princewill, however, restored parity in the 65th minute for the hosts, before Stephen Adodo’s brace snatched the victory for the visitors in the 80th minute.
Insurance have now amassed 37 points from 17 matches decided so far.
The club will be on the road again to honour their week 17 game with Ekiti United on Wednesday, the match that was put on hold due to the June 18 gubernatorial election in the state.
The Benin club are being trailed in the group by Gateway FC of Abeokuta, currently with 33 points, but a match less than Insurance.
