NiMet predicts 3-day cloudiness, thunderstorms

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudy weather and thunderstorms across the country  from Monday to Thursday.

NiMet’s Weather Outlook released on Monday in Abuja predicted cloudy skies on Tuesday with intervals of sunshine anticipated over the northern region with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Taraba and Adamawa states in the morning.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over the entire region. Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North Central Region during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Plateau, Kwara, Benue, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“Morning rains are expected over Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos, and Bayelsa states.

“Rains are expected over Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Edo, Anambra and the entire Coastal belt during the afternoon/evening hours,” it said.

According to the agency, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated on Wednesday over the northern region with chances of thunderstorms over Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states during the morning hours.

The agency also forecast thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno states later in the day.

“The North Central Region is expected to be cloudy with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of the FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue states during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over the entire region. Morning rains are envisaged over the Inland cities and parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos states.

“There are prospects of rains over most parts of the region in the afternoon and evening hours, ” it said.

NiMet anticipates thunderstorms over parts of Kano, Taraba, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Gombe states during the morning hours on Thursday.

It predicted thunderstorms  over Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states later in the day.

“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North Central Region with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT during the morning hours.

”Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, and the FCT  during the afternoon/evening hours, ” it added.

The agency further forecast morning rains over the Inland states and parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos state during the morning hours.

It predicted rains over Edo, Delta, Oyo, Ondo, Imo, Anambra, and the entire coastal cities during the afternoon and evening hours.

“To reduce incidences of erosion and overflow of water beyond its normal limits, gutters and waterways should be cleared of debris and obstacles to ensure free flow of water.

“Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” the agency said.
