Taraba Govt. sensitizes community on privatization of highland tea

Taraba State Government says it has begun sensitization of Kakara community on the privatization of the Karara Beverages, producers of the Highland Tea.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Taraba Investment and Property Development limited (TIPDL), Ezekiel Iliya, stated this while addressing newsmen in Jalingo on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kakara beverages Nigeria Ltd is located on the Mambila Plateau, in Sardauna LGA of the state.

Iliya said that the exercise was to educate the people about the benefits they would derive at the end of the sensitization.

He noted that the state government would own 30 percent of assets while the remaining 70 would be privatized.

The managing director stressed that the host community preferred foreigners to manage the company over Nigerian investors.

“We are happy that the host communities have welcomed the idea of privatization. They have told us that they are all happy with the development because it is what is happening in the whole world today.

“Government is not selling the company to an individual as speculated. Nothing changed in the company, 30 percent will be for the government while 70 will be privatized.

” This will improve profitability, productivity, efficiency, and job opportunities for the benefit of Tarabans.” he said

He said the government was proposing to privatize the company, to ensure proper and efficient management devoid of interference and bureaucracies.

Iliya urged the general public to disregard any rumors that Mambila Beverages (Nig) Limited belonged to a particular community.

According to him, these are rumors by mischief makers who aim at creating dissatisfaction and raising unnecessary tension amongst members of the public.

NAN recalls that the government had proposed the privatization of Karara beverages, the producers of the Highland Tea to a private company.
