The Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the family of former APC woman leader, Kemi Nelson who died o Sunday.
Similarly, the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat joined other dignitaries to condole with the family of late Nelson.
Also, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly led by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Wasiu Eshinokun-Sanni joined the bigwigs in the ruling party on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
Gbajabiamila, who arrived at 4.35 p.m, shortly after Hamzat and the lawmakers had arrived at 4.00 p.m. and 4:23 p.m. respectively, assured the family of the late politician that the party shared in their grief.
“You are not alone in this moment of grief. We know she is at peace wherever she is. God will console you,” Gbajabiamila told the family.
Speaking with newsmen, Gbajabiamila described Nelson as a dogged fighter in any cause she believed in.
“The reaction to the death of Chief Kemi Nelson will probably be the same across the board, that it was more of shock, it was emotional and sad.
“I think I speak for everybody across the spectrum, whether you are a politician or not, as long as you knew who Kemi Nelson was. It is very sad.
“She will be remembered as somebody who cared for people, loved people and ready to do anything for people. She will be remembered for her doggedness. She was a fighter.
“You just needed her in your corner. She was just a great passionate person in all that she did. She will be remembered for a lot of things. She was a good person all in all.”
Also, Hamzat described the late APC women leader as a wonderful human being that cared a lot about other people, even before her own.
“If she is by your side, then you have the rock. She will fight your battle. We will really miss her,” the deputy governor said.
Speaking on behalf of Lagos Assembly, Eshinlokun- Sanni described the late politician as an icon and a legend who would be missed.
“For us in the Lagos state house of assembly, she was a political icon and a legend. She contributed immensely to the emancipation of women folks in Lagos state. The Lagos state APC immensely is grateful to God for a life well spent,” the lawmaker said.
He said that Nelson worked to put women in various positions in the state and at federal levels.
Responding to sympathisers on behalf of the family, Mr Tunji Nelson, one of the sons of the late politician, thanked Gbajabiamiala, Hamzat, Lagos assembly and other people that shared in their grief.
Tunji said : “We have lost a caring woman. She was all about women empowerment. We can all identify the impacts she made in the last 30 years, she had been serving people.
“She put everyone’s interest above hers. The loss is irreplaceable. We know she is with our maker and that we will meet again.”
Calling for prayers for the family, Tunji said her mother devoted her life to service of the people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that sympathisers have continued to throng the Lagos home of the former APC women leader after news of her death broke.
NAN recalls that Nelson, a former commissioner in Lagos state, was appointed the Executive Director, Nigerian Insurance Trust Fund by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
Until her death, she was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council, the highest decision making body of the APC in Lagos state.
Before her death, Nelson was the Yeye Oge of Lagos state and one of the right-hand loyalists of the APC presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu.
