The Police Command in Enugu State is verifying an alleged report of kidnap of 15 residents of Mgbuji in Eha-Amufu Community of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area by armed men.
This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Monday in Enugu.
“The Command is yet to get clear information or report on the report alleging abduction of about 15 persons at Mgbuji in Eha-Amufu Community by armed men in the morning hours of July 18.
“However, effort is being made to ascertain the occurrence or otherwise of the incident as alleged.
“We also want to obtain relevant facts that will aid appropriate police actions and to avoid the police being speculative,” he said.
The police spokesman said that further development would be communicated accordingly on the matter.
In other news, Jos Upper Area Court on Tuesday sentenced two friends to four months imprisonment each for stealing a cell phone worth N 43,000.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Lawal Suleiman sentenced Sadiq Sani and Abdulrazak Musa following a guilty plea to conspiracy and theft.
They begged the court for leniency.
Suleiman, however, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N5, 000 each.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Nassarawa Police station in Jos, on July 6, by Mr Ibrahim Uba.
He said the friends conspired and stole his Techno pop IV worth N43,000 and sold it to one Abubakar Aba who is currently at large for N17,000.
Gowkat said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 57 and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code of Northern Nigeria
