A Kano Shari’a Court on Thursday ordered that a 29-year-old man, Zayyanu Auwal, who allegedly swindled a businessman of N78,000 be remanded in a correction centre.
The police charged Auwal, who lives in Kano, with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Judge, Malam Ismai’l Muhammad-Ahmed adjourned the case until Aug.16, for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Abdullahi Wada, told the court that Malam Bello Musa reported the matter at the Fagge Police Station Kano on July 14.
Wada said the complainant boarded a car from Kwanar Dawakin Motor Park to Niger State with a new engine he bought for N20,000, including clothes worth N58,500.
He said the complainant earlier told the defendant to help him keep an eye on the goods because he wanted to ease himself.
When the complainant came back to the car, he said, the defendant denied seeing the goods.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Wada said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 131, 202, 206 and 322 of the Penal Code.
