A group of health workers in Enugu State on Friday endorsed the candidature of Mr Peter Mba, the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Coordinator of the group, Dr Robert Nnamchi told a news conference that the endorsement of the PDP candidate followed an unbiased assessment of the antecedents of the major contestants in the election.
He said the group comprised medical doctors, laboratory scientists, pharmacists and nurses.
The coordinator said that Mba as a businessman, industrialist and a former commissioner for finance in Enugu State, possessed the qualities needed to make the state work again.
“This is a man who stamped his seal of excellence during his tenure as commissioner for finance in the state.
“It is on record that before Mba ventured into politics, he built a state-of-the-art and fully equipped hospital that provides 24 hours emergency specialist services for his people,’’ Nnamchi said.
He added that the group would embark on a free medical outreach in five selected communities in each of the 17 local government areas of the state
The medical outreach would be executed on the platform of the Peter Mba Medic Vanguard, he said.
“During the outreach, medical experts will treat people free of charge and conduct minor eye and dental surgeries and free laboratory tests,” he said.
“We will equally hold advocacy visits, health talks, seminars, preventive health education and community deworming campaign.
“Our plan is to deploy all necessary health tools available to ensure that poor people in the catchment communities benefit from this programme,’’ Nnamchi said.
