CAF interclub season begins Sept. 9 with 108 clubs

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says its 2022/23 interclub competitions will kick off on Sept. 9.

CAF made the announcement in a statement posted on its official website, cafonline.com, on Wednesday.

“The 2022/23 season will kick off with the preliminary rounds of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup,” CAF said.

The continent’s football governing body said in the Champions League, 58 clubs will be slugging it out to try and dethrone African champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.

In the Confederation Cup, 50 clubs will vie for top honours to unseat current champions RS Berkane also of Morocco.

The first leg of matches in the first preliminary round will be played from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11, with the return matches scheduled to be played a week later.

Reports have it that newly-crowned Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Rivers United and runners-up Plateau United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions league.

Remo Stars FC of Ikenne and Kwara United will lead the battle in the Confederation Cup.
