The Abia Advisory Council has commended the State Government for producing a Long Term Development Plan (2020 – 2050) for the state.
The Chairman of the council, Chief Chikezie Wachuku, made the commendation on Thursday at a newsbriefing in Umuahia as part of the activities to mark the 31st anniversary of the state.
Wachuku described the plan as the first comprehensive document designed to guide the systematic development of the state for the next 30 years.
He said that the State Government had made appreciable efforts to enhance the infrastructure and human capital development.
“We plead with the incoming administration to utilise the plan to move the state to greater height,” Wachuku said.
He advised the people of Abia to be vigilant and security conscious.
According to him, security is everybody’s responsibility.
He further advised residents to vote wisely in the 2023 general elections in order to enthrone good governance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abia was carved out of the old Imo on August 27, 1991 by former President Ibrahim Babangida.
This year’s Abia Day celebration is scheduled to begin with Church and Jumat services, followed with award presentation to eminent indigenes, amongst other activities.
