Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ukata, a Catholic priest with Owerri Diocese, Imo, has admonished Christian faithfuls to desist from acts capable of causing abuse to the holy Eucharist.
Ukata made the call on Friday in Lafia at the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress of the Lafia Catholic Diocese.
He explained that a lot of Catholics engaged in activities such as use of phones, reading newspaper and doing other activities during mass, and called for change of attitudes.
According to him, if one is not behaving well and one did not behave appropriately during Eucharist, he or she is abusing Eucharist which is not good.
“Eucharist is very important, it is a communion between man and God. Eucharist is Thanksgiving.
“When we are celebrating mass, we are thanking God and God blesses us as there is a unity between God and man.
“When we are celebrating Eucharist, we should be humble and behave well in order to get God’s favours and blessings,” the cleric admonished.
Ukata described Eucharist as the symbol of unity and love for all Christians, hence the need for Christians to embrace it at all times.
He urged the faithful to extend hands of friendship to the needy and the less privileged in the society.
The Man of God also enjoined Christians to always do the right things in order to inherit the kingdom of God.
Reports have it that the programme brought together priests, religious and other lay faithfuls across the Catholic Diocese of Lafia.
