Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) says it has received 1,602 complaints and recovered N450 million from July 2021 to date.
The Acting Chairman of the commission, Mahmoud Balarabe, stated this at a news conference in Kano on Tuesday.
According to him, the commission received 1,602 complaints from families, individuals, and corporate bodies within the period under review.
He said that 253 cases had been concluded while 1,349 others were pending.
The Chairman said the commission recovered N450 million cash for complainants, while landed properties, valuable items, and some vehicles belonging to Open Government Partnership (OGP).
He said the commission also made modest achievements in instituting a good administrative structure, improved staff welfare, and amending of PCACC law within the period under review.
“We also restored public service confidence in reporting their complaints. In July 2021; we received between 30 and 35 complaints daily, it has increased to over 60 to 65 in a month, people now prefer to report their complaints to the commission,” he said.
While commending Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for his support towards improving the welfare of its personnel, Balarabe reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption in the state.
“Corruption is a wide term, it goes beyond bribery. The commission clamped down on two persons engaged in selling adulterated maize at the Dawanau grain market in the metropolis.
“Presently; we are winning because the general public understands the effect of corruption, it kills opportunities among others,” he said.
