The Wife of the Kwara Governor, Amb. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, on Wednesday in Ilorin said that drug eradication in the state remains a top priority to her.
Mrs AbdulRazaq said this when officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state paid her a courtesy visit.
Noting the proactive efforts of the agency in the fight against illicit drug peddling, trafficking and abuse in the state in particular and country at large, she said no stone would be left unturned in the fight against drug abuse and addiction.
She disclosed that government was aware of some of the challenges facing the agency, assuring that the challenges will be addressed.
“Communication is key to raising awareness on drug abuse and its resultant effects on the society.
“We are confident that drug abuse will be reduced in Kwara. I want to assure you also that drug eradication will be my priority.
“I commend your efforts and activities on drug eradication in the state. We will continue to work together with the agency and I assure you, we will work on your demands,” the governor’s wife said.
Earlier, Mr Ibrahim Saidu, the state NDLEA commander, had appealed to the wife of the governor for assistance to help the agency in the completion of its rehabilitation centre to accommodate more victims of drug abuse in need of rehabilitation.
Saidu also appealed for assistance to print campaign materials, run jingles on radio and television stations, as well as for provision of operational vehicles, among others.
“We are here to partner with you and ask for support for our programmes.
“We want your excellency to help with completion of our rehabilitation centre and refurbishing of available ones. We need an operational vehicle.
“This will help the agency in its continued fight against hard drugs and illicit substances and its abuse in the state,” he said.
In another development, the governor’s wife said that there was need for government at all levels to continue engaging women in key areas of administrative positions.
She said this when the Kwara Board of Women Appointees led by its Coordinator, Alhaja Kuburat Ibrahim, paid her a courtesy visit.
While commending the women for their hardwork, Mrs AbdulRazaq urged them to work hard to show that they were worthy of the position given them through conscious movement, utterances and attitude to duty.
Earlier, Ibrahim in her address appreciated the administration of Malam AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq.
She called for collaboration of the office of the governor’s wife with the group while pledging their support for all programmes organised by the office.
“We are here to formalise the relationship of the association with your office.
“We are here to support the activities of the office of the governor’s wife and to commend you for empowering women across the state.
“Every young lady should look up to you as a role model,” she said.
Present at the meeting were the Commissioners for Communications, Mr Bode Towoju; Social Development, Mrs Abosede Aremu; Attorney General, Mr Sulyman Senior; and the SA to the governor on cultural matters, Alhaji Muka Ray, among others.
