The Dean, School of Education, University of Kigali, Rwanda, Prof. AbdulRasaq Oniye, has advised Nigerians to participate actively and consciously in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
Oniye gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin on Thursday.
He said credibility, antecedents of performance, and genuine concern for the constituency of political seekers should count uppermost in the minds of Nigerians in casting their votes.
According to the education scholar, this is a great opportunity for Nigerians to right the wrong and vote for people that have genuine concern and love for their plights and the growth of the country.
The don who is also an expert in Marriage Counseling, cautioned the electorate not to allow pecuniary gains to override their genuine mindset of voting the best candidates from the House of Assembly to the Presidency, which is the peak of all to change the country for good.
“Pecuniary gains like giving out of money and food should not be the consideration for voting a candidate.
” We must not be bought for any selfish reason to mortgage our future by voting into power people who did not have a genuine history of where we are coming from,” he advised.
Oniye also urged Nigerians to judge carefully, be focused, and be determined to ensure that we install people that will use the office to benefit the constituency they will represent, adding that this is the best opportunity to get it right in Nigeria.
