The American University University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on advacing postgraduate programme in communication.
The MoU would facilitate commencement of Masters of Science degree in Communication, Social and Behavior Change.
Prof. Attahiru Yusuf, President of the University, said the programme was designed to examine how communication affect humanity considering the current global trend of development.
He lauded the UNICEF for the partnership, adding that UNICEF has been a critical stakeholder in changing the global community.
He reiterated the readiness of the University towards ensuring sustainability of the programme.
Mr Opiyo Nixon, UNICEF’s Chief Field Operations Officer, said the programme would enhance the capacity of academics, researchers and students towards strenghening communication for development.
He said it would also build social and behavioural change agenda for all round development as well as improve the intellectual capacity and horizon of the students and organisations in policy and programme implementation.
The UN agency, he said is working to expand Communication for Development (CD4) by projecting stronger focus on social and behavioural change.
According to him, UNICEF has designed academic modules for subsequent utilisation by the students, adding that the programme would begin in January 2023.
