The Katsina State Judiciary has procured 27 vehicles for police and judges to ensure quick investigation and effective justice delivery in the judicial system.
The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Musa Danladi-Abubakar disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday’s side of the 2022 Legal Year celebration.
Danladi-Abubakar explained that two Hilux vehicles were provided to the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to enable it to have access to easy investigations in all nooks and crannies of the state.
According to him, victims of rape, robbery, theft, and other criminalities turned out to be the ones providing vehicles, fuelling, and papers to police to write statements during investigations.
“Hence, we feel this is not proper. We, therefore, synergised and provided the vehicles to the CID to complement their efforts by swinging to action whenever a case is reported to them.”
Danladi-Abubakar said that quick investigation into cases would pave the way for quick dispensation of Justice.
“It is in view of the above, that the Judiciary donated the two vehicles to the Criminal Investigation Department to effectively carry out its statutory duty,” the CJ added.
He said that those 25 other vehicles were also provided to 25 judges as official cars for their movements.
Danladi-Abubakar noted that the cars would ease the movements of the judges as well as shield them from the risk of being attacked by criminals standing trial in court.
“It doesn’t augur well for judges to be boarding public transport because they don’t know those they are boarding the cabs with.
“I believe the provision of official vehicles would go a long way to uphold the integrity and credibility of the judges.”
“This is because judges stand the risk of being attacked by insurgents, bandits, armed robbers, and other criminal elements, in view of the situation we are in now in the state,” the CJ added.
