Mechanic jailed two years for fraud

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 27-year-old mechanic, Sogbesan Oluwamba, to two-year imprisonment for fraudulently converting his customer’s money for his personal use.

The Magistrate, O.A Akamo-Oyede sentenced the convicts on a one-count charge of fraud.

Akamo-Oyede held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty as charged.

She thereafter, sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine,  upon the restitution of the money N380,000 to be refunded to the complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Evelyn Motion told the court that the convict committed the offense sometime in March at about 12:00 p.m. in Oke Yidi Lantoro area in Abeokuta.

Motin, said the convict, who is a mechanic, fraudulently stole N380,000 belonging to one Atiku Saidu.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant, Saidu, told the convict, who is a mechanic to help him purchase a Nissan Sunny Car which he failed to do.
She said the convict collected the money and  converted it to personal use, refusing to refund the money or produce the car
 The prosecutor, however, said the offense committed contravened the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.
