An Upper Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year-old driver, Hassan Ahmed to three years imprisonment for breach of trust, stealing and cheating.
The judge, David Damulak sentenced Ahmed after he pleaded guilty to the three-count charge.
Damulak, however, gave the convict an option of N200,000 fine and ordered him to pay a compensation of N250,000 to the complainant.
The judge said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Aug. 29 at the Laranto Police station by one Jamilu Jibril, the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the convict was entrusted with a truck to make monthly returns, but instead, parked the truck, removed the tyres and sold them.
“The driver also ran away with a balance of N860, 000 meant to be the cash return on the business,” said the prosecutor.
Gokwat said that during police investigation, the convict disclosed that he sold two tyres for N120,000.
The offence, he said, is punishable under the provisions of Section 297, 307 and 272 of Plateau Penal Code Law.
