The Speaker, Ogun state Assembly, Mr Olakunle Oluomo, has described the death of Funminiyi Afuye, the Speaker of Ekiti state Assembly, as a monumental loss to Ekiti and Nigeria at large.
This was made known in a statement by AbdulGhaffar Adeleye, his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, on Friday in Abeokuta.
Oluomo expressed shock at the news of the death.
He added that Afuye was a thorough bred politician who had the love of his people at heart, till death took him.
According to him, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye’s death came at a time his legislative expertise will be needed in the new administration that just took off in the state.
The news of his death came as a rude shock. His experience in governance as well as his gentleman approach to issues shall be greatly missed.
Oluomo, who is the national vice chairman (South West), Conference of Speakers of State legislatures, encouraged his family members, constituents and the entire legislative arm of government in the country to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived an impactful life worthy of emulation.
The south west speakers have lost one of our pillars. We are bereaved. May the Lord rest his soul peacefully,” he said.
Recall that Afuye, who represented Ikere constituency 1, died on Wednesday at the age of 66 after a brief illness.
