Police arraign 22-year old man, Michael Chindo, in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja, for threatening his neighbour with a knife.
Chindo, who resides in Old Kutunku Gwagwalada Abuja, was charged by the police with criminal trespass, house breaking, mischief, intimidation and attempt to commit offence of theft.
Abdullahi Tanko, the Prosecution Counsel, told the court that the complainant, Bisi Alao of old Kutunku Gwagwalada Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on Oct. 16.
According to Tanko, the defendant broke the complainant’s burglary window and entered her room threatening to kill her with a knife.
The defendant, in an attempt to steal recharge cards and money, damaged the complainant’s ceiling.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Tanko said that the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code.
The presiding Judge, Mr Sani Umar, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with one reasonable and reliable surety in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The Judge added that the surety must provide a valid means of identification and two recent passport photographs.
Umar ordered that the address of the surety must be verified by the court staff and in default, the defendant should be remanded in prison custody.
The case adjourned until Jan. 25, for hearing.
