Dr Ubanna Ahamba, assistant Chief Medical Officer (CMD) at Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital, Oraifite, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra, says the hospital is a big boost to Nigerian medical tourism.
Ahamba made the compliment during the facility tour by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra council, as part of activities to mark its 2022 press week.
He said that the hospital conducted a free open heart surgery on nine indigent children when it was officially opened to the public on May 12, 2022.
Ahamba said that the facility is a multi-million-dollar investment in advanced medical science, with specialties in critical care management and automated surgery procedures.
“We have huge plans to transform it to a teaching hospital where we can groom young talents and medical professional in Nigeria,” he said.
Ahamba disclosed that the facility employed highly-skilled medical experts from all over the world in cardiology, Nephrology, and critical care.
He said that the hospital has a digital X-ray system, Direct Oxygen delivery, Automated ventilators, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and state-of-the-art theaters with most modern equipment to carter for all types of surgeries ranging from minor to supra major surgeries of all manners obtainable overseas.
Ms Amanda Obisike, the General Manager of the Foundation, said that the foundation is a humanitarian centre that prides itself in various areas of human endeavors, ranging from Health sector, education, public facilities amongst others.
Obisike said that the foundation was designed majorly to give back to the society which has been so kind to the founder and most especially to sustain the legacies of his late parents, Geoffrey and Irene.
She said that world class medical facility immortalises Dame Irene Okwuosa, a fearless planner and mentor to many. She also championed the rights of women and children.
“Mama Okwuosa’s legacies values are being sustained on all fronts,” she said.
She disclosed that in no distant future, the hospital would be engaging medical experts across the globe on a free medical services on various degrees of surgeries.
“We have offered medical fair to over 5,000 people with free drugs, free clinical examination, health talks, and outdoor check-ups, people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, malaria, chronic pain and various eye defect,” she said.
Chief Oseloka Offor, the Community mobilizer and media officer, said that the foundation has opened up the communities in Anambra, South East and Nigeria to an affordable medical care like what is obtainable abroad.
Offor urged the public from far and near to avail themselves of the golden chance offered by the foundation to change their lives in health, education and social care.
He assured the journalists that they should feel free to contact the foundation anytime they are in need of their services because they are in partnership with the media for having considered to visit the foundation during its press week.
Dr Emeka Odogwu, the chairman of NUJ Anambra council, commended the founder for choosing to build the edifice in a rural area like Oraifite where patronage is likely to be poor.
Mr Tony Okarfor, the chairman of the press week, commended the foundation management for their warm reception.
