The Osun State Government, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of Prince Yinusa Akadiri of the Oba-Ara Ruling House, as the new Akinrun of Ikirun, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State.
A statement by the Commissioner For Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, in Osogbo said the announcement of the new Akinrun was made after the State’s Executive Council meeting.
According to the statement, Akadiri’s emergence followed majority votes in his favour in a meeting of Ikirun kingmakers on Nov. 19, 2021, where he polled six out of seven votes to defeat 17 other candidates.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seat of Akinrun became vacant on Feb. 8, 2021, following the demise of Oba Rauf Olawale Adedeji, who mounted the royal stool in 1991.
The statement said that the government also announced the appointments of nine other traditional rulers across the state. It said the appointments take immediate effect.
