HYPPADEC to give 7,500 youths financial support in Kwara

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has said that it has plans to give 7,500 youths financial support in Kwara to grow their businesses.

Abubakar Yelwa, the Managing Director HYPPADEC, made this known on Friday in Ilorin, while speaking at a presentation of short-term development of the commission to stakeholders.

The plan was tagged ‘30 by 30’.

According to Yelwa, the commission would pick 30 youths from the 250 HYPPADEC communities in Kwara and support them with the sum of N30,000 each.

The managing director said that since the commencement of the commission’s operation in Kwara, it had supplied 167 solar street lights, completed 16 solar-powered boreholes and commenced procurement processes for another 16.

Furthermore, he stated that HYPPADEC had commenced the construction of a block of three classrooms in the five local government areas, while efforts were in top gear to initiate another set.

Also, Yelwa said that the commission had commenced the construction of Patigi drainage programme.

He added that if no action was taken to address the drainage issue in the area, half of the town would be lost to the menace.

According to him, the commission had already supplied fertilisers to affected communities at a reasonably discounted rate despite the fact that it could not provide the need of the communities.

Yelwa explained that the commission had also distributed food items to the communities affected by floods in the state and helped students in tertiary institutions to foot their bills.
