The Kwara North Development Council (KWANDCO) has urged the Federal Government to rehabilitate bad roads in the zone in order to reduce road carnage.
Mr Jerry Kolo, the Chairman of the council, made the call during a news conference on Thursday in Ilorin.
According to Kolo, failed federal roads in Kwara north was of grave concern to the people, as they experienced lots of hardship.
It is very important that we register our discomfort over the pain caused us by the challenges of the following roads:
Kishi/Kaiama road, Share/Patigi road, specifically Gbugbu/Patigi phase and Ogboro road, through Ilesha/Baruba-Yashikira of Kwara, he said.
Kolo also said that all the affected roads are Trunk (A) federal roads, which means that the federal government solely was responsible to fix them.
He said that the federal government, through federal ministry of works, had directed the state government to stop the contractor on Kishi/Kaiama road with the intention to fix it, but not yet done.
Therefore, he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently direct the appropriate Ministry of Works to fix the roads.
The economic and mental health of our people keep deteriorating and if fixed, it will benefit largely the farmers, market women and ordinary people crawling through those hazardous roads daily.
We hope that the roads will be done before the end of President Buhari’s tenure as our people have suffered enough running through those torturing routes daily,” he said.
However, the chairman thanked Buhari for his intervention on erosion challenges that affected Patigi General Hospital through the Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) under the leadership of Abubakar Yelwa.
We appreciate the kind gesture of the president for his intervention on erosion challenges, with the influence of the state government under the administration of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, he said.
