Organisers of the Lagos Women Run on Thursday said that over 25,000 women from all walks of life would participate in the 2022 programme.
The Coordinator, Tayo Popoola, said this during a press briefing in Lagos heralding the 2022 edition of the 10-kilometre race.
The 7th edition of the race, holding on Nov. 12.
NAN quoted Popoola as saying that the race has witnessed significant success since inception.
Popoola said that the race had given women across the country a platform to network and improve on their health, while the elite runners have the opportunity to assess their performances.
“The Lagos women’s run is a platform for creativity among women, with a fun atmosphere and an opportunity to celebrate women.
“We have women from various professional backgrounds who are passionate about their jobs, well being and who are ready to celebrate themselves.
“In this year’s edition, we have about 25,000 runners in the categories of the elites and the fun runners,’’ she said.
Popoola said that over 18,000 runners registered online while the organisers printed about 10,000 physical forms.
“As at the last collation, we have 18,000 who registered online because we wanted to restrict the registration to an online affair.
“We also printed a physical form for those who cannot access the online form to capture those on the informal sector, people like the market women, fashion designers and the rest of them.
“The purpose of this is to provide same platform for all women to thrive; aside this, we have prizes for all categories of women that will participate in the run,’’ she said.
Winner of the Lagos women’s run will go with N1 million cash prize while others will have other consolation prizes.
The race will start from the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island, and end at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (formerly Onikan Stadium), Lagos Island.
