Mr Emmanuel Uguru, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abakaliki- Izzi Federal Constitutuency seat in Ebonyi, has promised to work toward accelerating the development of the mining sector of the economy.
Uguru said this when he interacted with newsmen in Abakaliki, promising to sponsor a bill for development of host communities, when elected.
He said that the plan was aimed at addressing the trend of open mining sites, that had claimed lives and caused environmental hazards in host communities across the country
“I plan to sponsor a bill to add to already existing laws on mining, to change the trends of open mining sites found in communities.
“State Government and communities have not being benefiting from mining sector,” he said.
Uguru, a former Ebonyi Commissioner for Power and Energy, Environment, Lands and Survey, said he would focus on creating job opportunities for youths to tackle restiveness in the country.
He stated that he had empowered 150 youths, established a skill acquisition centre, build the state university law faculty complex, among other numerous achievements to develop the state.
Uguru pledged to initiate quarterly town hall meetings with his constituents for better understanding if given the mandate in 2023.
