The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking of 10 constituency projects awarded at over N355 million on Tuesday in Sokoto State.
The investigation is being conducted on the projects status under Phase 5 of the ICPC Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking (CEPT) currently going on in 21 states.
Mr Sa’idu Yahaya, the Team Leader, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they will inspect 10 projects in two Senatorial districts and five Federal constituencies in Sokoto.
The projects were awarded at the sum of N355, 391,657.95 and expected to be fully implemented.
Therefore, the group which comprises of members from the ICPC, Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyor, Civil Society Organisations, Media and Executing Agencies are mandated to track the projects.
This is in order to monitor, track the performance of the projects and value of work done.
As well as identify the contractual sum and contractors, unearth payments made, identify the status and persons behind the projects, Yahaya said.
He also said that the team will track the contracting companies’ compliance to statutory regulations, including tax obligations.
Yahaya said that they will also ascertain the value and impact of the projects for the various communities, where they were provided.
According to NAN, some of the projects include the supply of vehicles in Sokoto East Senatorial district and motorcycles in Sokoto North Senatorial district.
Also included in the tracking details is the supply of 188 motorcycles in Illela/Gwadabawa Federal constituency.
Others are, supply of NPK Fertilizer and water pumping machine to Kware/Wamakko constituency and strategic empowerment programme for Agripreneurs in Bodinga/Dange Shuni/Tureta constituency.
The CEPT team has already visited some of the projects executed in Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal constituency and Bodinga/Dange Shuni/Tureta Federal constituency.
