A 21-year old sales representative, Khalid Suleiman sentenced to 27 months imprisonment by an Area Court sitting in Jos on Thursday, for misappropriating N462,200.
Suleiman was sentenced by a panel of two magistrates, Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan, after he pleaded guilty to cheating and misappropriation.
He was given an option of N20,000 by the magistrates.
The magistrates also ordered the convict to pay N460, 000 compensation to the complainant and in default to spend another 2 years in prison.
According to them, the judgement would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.
Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, the Prosecution Counsel, earlier told the court that the case was reported on Aug. 31 at the Area Command and Metro by Malam Abdulhamid Suleiman, the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the convict was entrusted with a shop and fabrics worth N462,200.
However, the convict said he sold the fabrics and converted the money to his personal use.
He said the offence is punishable under the provisions of sections 307, 297and 294 of the Plateau Penal Code law.
