Legendary Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, has narrated how she was forced into marriage by her parents when she was young.
The thespian described the forced marriage as ‘horrible’, however, noted that she stayed in it to please her parents, especially her father who loved her so dearly.
Patience said she couldn’t reject the man who presented himself to marry her because her generation had no say on who to or not to love. She added that they did not give her the chance to wait for the love of her life.
In her words; “It was my parents’ decision, I come from a polygamous family where my mother’s mates’ daughters get married and my mother wants her own daughter to get married and they had to choose the man that presented himself to them” without allowing her to wait for the love of her life.
Describing her experience from the forced marriage, the veteran actress said, “it was horrible”, stating that her time was the time children couldn’t decide who they want to get married to. Their parents or cousins could arrange who they want them to get married to.
The actress revealed she stayed back in the marriage because she didn’t want to disappoint her parents, especially her father who loved her so much. She carried on for her family and to take care of her children without minding if there was love in the marriage or not.
