Controversial musician Naira Marley has expressed his interest in composing the national anthem for the proposed Nigeria’s new name, United Africans Republic (UAR).
Naira Marley’s comment follows reports that the national assembly has begun the constitutional amendment process.
A Lagos-based tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye, had on Wednesday submitted a proposal to the House of Representatives committee on the review of the constitution, requesting for the change of name of Nigeria.
Jokotoye argued that a foreigner, Flora Shaw, wife of Lord Lugard, coined and gave the name – Nigeria to the West African country.
Naira Marley offered to sing the new national anthem if Nigeria’s name is changed to UAR. “Omo, na me go sing the new national Anthem for UAR,” he wrote.
Omo Na me go sing the new national Anthem for UAR. 🇳🇬
