Former America’s president, Barack Obama, has released his annual summer playlist, however, is a Nigerian song on the list?
For the first time in three years, no Nigerian song featured on Obama’s playlist.
In 2019, Mavin Records musician, Rema, emerged as the first Nigerian artiste to feature on the playlist with his song ‘Iron Man’.
2020, the track ‘Smile’ by star boy Wizkid featuring H.E.R was listed on the most sought-after playlist.
The 2021 list includes Migos’ ‘Straightenin’, H.E.R.’s Lil Baby collaboration ‘Find A Way’ and Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave The Door Open’. In terms of older tracks, Obama selected the likes of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Coyote’, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ ‘Exodus’, and The Rolling Stones’ ‘Tumbling Dice’.
Posting his latest playlist on July 10, 2021, Obama wrote: “With so many folks getting together with family and friends, there’s a lot to celebrate this summer.”
“Here’s a playlist of songs I’ve been listening to lately – it’s a mix of old and new, household names and emerging artists, and a whole lot in between.”
