The Lagos State High Court has admitted a CCTV footage submitted by Comedian Princess as evidence against embattled actor, Baba Ijesha.
Baba Ijesha is fighting to save his movie career and disgraced persona following his arrest and detention by the Lagos Police after he allegedly molested comedian Princess’ 14-year-old foster daughter.
After Princess recounted what happened in today’s court session, the CCTV video and three other witnesses were presented before the court by the Lagos state director of public prosecution (DPP), Olayinka Adeyemi.
Baba Ijesha’s counsel, Babatunde Ogala, argued in court that the CCTV video presented was not ‘primary evidence,’ saying “primary evidence is not secondary evidence. The maker of the CCTV footage is the primary evidence. The CD is secondary evidence which is not admissible.”
The judge, Oluwatoyin Taiwo, however countered Ogala and stated that the witness and prosecution had given enough foundation for the footage to be admissible.
In her ruling, the judge said, “She (Princess) has laid enough foundation, so it’s admissible. The witness has given enough information on it so I’ll allow it.”
Baba Ijesha is being tried on a six-count charge which includes sexual assault by penetration, indecent treatment of a child, and sexual assault.
The trial for the alleged offences is expected to last between July 26 through 27 and 28, respectively.
