Late music maestro, Victor Uwaifo, will get a state burial courtesy of the Edo State government.
A statement on Sunday by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Osaigbovo Iyoha, made the announcement.
Uwaifo, 80, died on August 28, 2021. He was an instrumentalist, arts teacher and culture ambassador.
Iyoha said the government is firming up arrangements with the family of the deceased.
“The Governor has approved a state burial for an illustrious and dearly beloved Edo music icon, Prof. Sir Victor Uwaifo.
“Arrangements are in top gear and we will disclose more details of the burial in conjunction with the family”, he noted.
The ‘Guitar Boy’ was Nigeria’s first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism.
Uwaifo obtained a Ph.D in Architectural Sculpture at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and lectured at the institution’s Department of Fine and Applied Art.
