The Ghana Police Service detained famous dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known as Shatta Wale, for disseminating fake information.
The musician was shot yesterday in East Legon, Ghana, according to reports. Nana Dope, the singer’s publicist, then posted a statement on his social media account stating that Shatta Wale had been transported to a hospital’s emergency department.
This elicited a response from Ghanaian police, who stated on Facebook that they were looking for the singer, whose whereabouts were unknown at the time.
Early today, the Ghana Police service via their official Facebook page stated that the singer turned himself in after they had declared him wanted. They also arrested Shatta Wale for “creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic”.
The statement titled, Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale, reads, “The Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale. After we publicly declared him and one other person wanted, the suspect, Shatta Wale, turned himself in today Tuesday 19th October 2021, at 8.59 pm.
“He has been arrested to assist the Police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic. As stated in previous statements, the public is advised to desist from publishing false information, capable of disturbing the peace of the country or risk being arrested and prosecuted.”
