The recent issue that transpired between actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie, her daughter, Purity and a yet-to-be -identified female teacher in Chrisland has made the private educational institution to react.
A member of the school’s advisory board, Akin Fadeyi, in a statement said the school management would leave no stone unturned in probing the issue and would give appropriate feedback to the public and other stakeholders.
The statement read in part, “We are working on every available information at our disposal and are investigating what actually took place to enable us to establish the veracity of each claim and the true state of things. This, we have swiftly embarked upon by deploying our well-tested processes to engage with each and everyone concerned, both within our internal and connected relationships.
“In the meantime, safeguarding the rights, dignity, creative capacity and sense of esteem of every child under our care, remains irrevocably entrenched at the core of our corporate ethos, even as we always keep our doors open to embrace constructive feedback from concerned public and especially our stakeholders.”
This is coming after a public outcry on Friday, October 22, by Mercy Johnson about a female teacher who had been allegedly bullying her eight-year-old daughter in school. The mother of four, in a series of posts on her Instagram page, had bitterly narrated how Purity had complained and “suffered” in the hands of the teacher who had said, “She doesn’t like Mercy Johnson and celebrity kids are badly behaved.”
Although the actress had refrained from revealing the name of the teacher and the school on her Instagram page, she revealed she had politely confronted the teacher and also reported to the school authorities. As of the time of filing this report, the post had garnered over 19,600 comments and 152 likes.
Many of her colleagues had also demanded justice for the mother of four and assured her of their unwavering support. However, some Instagram users also faulted her claims.
@etinosaofficial said, “Mama, I appreciate your calmness. Please kindly furnish us with the name of the teacher and the exact school branch where we can find her. Me I no get home training.”
@Amin obiora also said, “Exposing daughter to the public or deliberately looking for cheap publicity for her daughter. Honestly, it is all rubbish. Punch should take this news down. It is not for our consumption. I do see some of her videos online “showing” her children, and it appears to me that she wants to promote a celebrity status for her children too by force. It’s honestly irritating. If she wants to take a stand against child bullying at school, she should, in a different way. Not in this isolated ‘child celebrity’ manner. It is even an abuse of the child.”
