Hundreds of fans pushed their way through the security gates at O2 Arena on Sunday night to see Nigerian musician Wizkid perform at one of three sold-out shows.
According to the Daily Mail, the O2 said it is examining its security protocols and recommended fans attending events this week to arrive early for security checks.
Visitors to the former Millennium Dome in North Greenwich must present a Covid permit to get access to the venue.
Three weeks have passed since a fatal crush at rapper Travis Scott’s two-day Astroworld event in Texas.
Venue officials said ‘a number of fans’ entered the venue, regardless of whether or not they had a ticket for Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ tour.
Footage posted to social media showed dozens of young people pushing through the lines and storming into the O2 as security guards attempted to push back.
As they rushed inside the arena, the crowds knocked down the airport-style security scanners. A lady seems to assault a venue security guard after he grabs another member of the public in another video.
‘This evening, a breach of the security cordon on the arena entrance happened, and as a result, a number of people in the line were allowed to enter the facility,’ an O2 Arena spokesperson said.
‘The situation was quickly contained by staff and the incident resolved.
‘The venue is reviewing security procedures for the remaining shows this week and advises fans to arrive early for security checks tomorrow night and again on Wednesday.’
Social media users called the scenes ‘sickening’ and ‘disgraceful’, while another added: ‘After Astroworld? People don’t have shame or value their safety.’
It comes three weeks after 10 people were killed, and dozens more injured, on the first night of Scott’s two-day Astroworld festival in Houston.
