Popular Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike has revealed his plan to start a television channel, Nollywood TV dedicated to promoting Nollywood and expanding the industry’s potential.
He also stated that the station, named Nollywood TV, will be launched on the TStv pay-per-view digital satellite decoder.
According to Emeka Ike, the effort became necessary in order to increase the film industry’s financial intake and enable it to broaden its horizons.
The actor also stated that, despite Nollywood’s popularity, the business needed to be more self-sustaining and have a commercial value.
“We cannot overemphasize that Nollywood has created relevance in the entertainment world and made an impact in the world in general.
“Nollywood is not just evolving, but still hanging in the air without adequate support; so, a platform like Nollywood TV offers a platform to showcase our jobs more which cannot be achieved with this current situation.
“We need to move from getting crumbs from the rich man’s table to having solid financial independence, Nollywood needs to push itself into heights at which other colleague industries are in the world like Hollywood.
“We want a next-level development in Nollywood that will be a lasting legacy to be proud of, something that will outlast our generation to the unborn.”
Ike added that platforms such as Nollywood TV would further give the industry a face and exploration opportunities.
“We need a level in the Nollywood whereby the structure can run fine. Setting up a structure like Nollywood TV on TStv will give us that leverage to explore more of the potentials in the industry,” he added.
“The cultural, ethics, values, and presentation of Nollywood will further be expounded and we will be free from the servitude of the sponsors.
“What I will try to achieve is to help the industry and give it a face and structure to contain and be of benefit to all.”
Is Nollywood TV truly important?
With the crop of talent in the industry and the structure of the industry itself, it is important to sell the talents and the industry to as much audience as there is access to. That is one important issue having a platform like Nollywood TV will address.
Access to a wider audience can only mean growth for the industry and for the talents as well, so this is a win-win for everyone involved.
