Brands all over the world need the influence of people in different industries to sell their products, and the PUMA brand has shown a major interest, even more than before in the African market as they go on to sign popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, also known as Davido as a global brand ambassador.
Reports revealed that the sports company has signed a long-term agreement with Davido, and this can be seen as a strategic move to capture the budding African market.
Looking at a report by Forbes titled ‘Why Now Is The Ideal TIme In Africa‘, Africa was regarded as the fastest-growing continent in the world, and what this means for businesses, companies, and brands is a market with high potentials of selling.
The possibility of selling in the African market is one, then the way to penetrate the market is another, which is one of the moves made by PUMA in signing Davido as a global brand ambassador.
Davido in his own right is a made name. The Nigerian singer has more than 20 million followers across social media, has four successful albums, and is one of the most successful musicians to come out of Africa up until now.
The influence Davido has cannot be overemphasized, both in music and with brands endorsements.
Welcoming Davido to the PUMA family, Johan Kuhlo, PUMA’s General Manager EEMEA Distribution expressed his excitement, explaining how important signing Davido will be for the brand.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Davido to the PUMA family!”
“Throughout our history, PUMA has had strong roots in Africa, football, and beyond. Signing Davido is both a clear commitment to Africa as a key market and a sign that African culture is becoming more and more relevant globally.” – Johan Kuhlo
Apart from Johan Kuhlo, Mrs. Ayo Amusan, the Executive Director of Persianas Retail Limited who is a distributor of PUMA in Nigeria also expressed her excitement.
“We are proud to welcome Davido to the PUMA family. With this partnership, our customers and indeed his fans everywhere can expect to see the magic that can happen when two iconic brands such as Davido and PUMA come together.” – Mrs. Ayo Amusan
Going forward for Davido as PUMA ambassador
Following today’s announcement, Davido will be a PUMA brand ambassador in Sub-Saharan Africa, North America, and around the world. He’ll wear the PUMA’s Sportstyle collections, which include the company’s iconic T7 tracksuits.
Also, as an avid sports fan, Davido will wear the company’s Basketball and Football styles.
What this means is that global brands are starting to recognize the impact of the African market and how the budding economy can contribute to the growth of their own brand.
