As today is the first of February, let’s take a look at the hottest songs that trended last month. If you are a music lover, you would have heard more than half, of not more.
1. DJ YK – Wa Wa Wa Warisi
This Warisi cruise beat song mix that has recently blown up into a trending sound and has also become a meme on the internet started trending in the third week of January.
What inspired DJ YK to make the cruise beat is due to a video that trended online showing a young man dancing with illuminated shoes and the voice of another man in the background hyping the dancer in a really funny way by improvising with his name and ad-libs as he went. The video then moved to Twitter where it became a full-on trend.
A few days later, popular record and dance beats producer, DJ YK, refixed the audio from the video and spun the hype from Warisi’s friend into the Warisi Cruise Beat that is now making rounds on the internet as well as in real life. The uptempo dance beat made it twice as contagious as even singer, Davido could not resist the trend, hopping on it by using the audio on his Instagram stories and even humorously addressing a friend in a video as ‘Warisi.’
2. Fireboy ft Ed Sheeran – Peru Remix
2021 was talented singer, Fireboy’s year as he enjoyed massive success with the release of the Shizzi produced Afropop tune Peru. To cap it all, despite calls from various quarters to feature Buju or Wande Coal on the remix, Fireboy made the rewarding decision to feature DSPs lover boy and British Grammy award winning superstar, EdSheeran on the official remix of the single. The remix which was released in December has become Fireboy’s biggest streaming hit till date. The remix pushed Peru to greater heights, achieving 5 million streams in a week, 10 million YouTube views within the same time frame and 10million streams on Spotify. The song is already certified silver in the UK, got co signs from the country “Peru” and is favored by critics to make the Billboard Hot 100. 3. Portable ft Pocolee and Olamide – Zazoo Zeh
Zazu or Zazoo in Nigeria is being attributed to the Nigerian artist, Portable Omolalomi. It means a movement of some sorts — when something has happened.
