It is quite unfortunate that the Nigerian society is now porous, any unreasonable content can influence the actions of the youths who are already settling for less.
Nigerian musicians are of significant influence on what plays out in society, but what most of the artistes are offering is contaminating the society they ought to have positive impacts on. These celebrities are supposed to serve as role models to others, but they have failed in this aspect because they want to stay in the news by all means.
It is one thing to use vulgar lyrics and release musical videos containing partly clothed characters, while it is another to go unruly and unapologetic to the point of dropping lewd tapes online. The rate at which these lascivious videos are flooding the Nigerian online space has made it almost impossible for reasonable contents to get attention. No thanks to Nigerian entertainers and influencers who are fond of using adulterated materials to attract more audience.
Where is the place of ethics in the Nigerian music industry? Where is the place of morality in Nigerian society? The society is now faced with the reality of what they consume online. The masses exposed to certain musical contents are now polluted. They’ve become perversive to the point that they cannot condemn the abnormal act of Oxlade but to applaud him for feeding their eyes with his show of shame!
Alas! With the recent reactions following Oxlade’s lewd tape, it is evident that there is a greater problem ahead. Nigerian entertainers, especially the musicians, are leading the current generation into cursed and deserted wilderness, yet nothing is being done to curb these acts. Who will save us from their evils?
Leaking lecherous videos as an act of wickedness or revenge, often gets condemned heavily by the majority because of the obvious intentions behind the leaks. It is already the order of the day for entertainers to be releasing their own lewd video to the public just to make headlines, and remain on the lips of their fans. It is sad they don’t see this as an offensive act, because they are not being questioned by any authority or governing body.
For Oxlade’s unreasonable act, he deserved to be condemned, his contracts terminated while all media houses should turn against him until he realises he has done substantial damage and then apologise for his wrongdoing.
No sane person will praise him for the leaked tape. If we continue to indulge this act, it is only a matter of time before we lose total control of sanity on social media because nobody is putting a check on them.
