Valentine’s Day in Nigeria is a special day of love, and while it is a day to be affectionate with a special person, it has become limited to majorly lovers with public display of affection.
Unfortunately, this year’s Valentine might not be so great for some celebrities who recently broke up; especially those who were in a relationship during last year’s Valentine’s Day. It just shows that celebrities are human too. This list is about some celebrities couples who spent last Valentine’s Day together but who’s relationship didn’t last long enough to witness Valentine’s Day today.
1. Vee and Neo
Former big brother Naija ‘lockdown’ housemates Victoria ‘Vee’ Adeleye and Neo Akpofure indirectly confirmed their relationship breakup earlier in the year.
With the regular loves up pictures and videos blessing our timelines at regular intervals, many fans had thought the relationship which started in big brother house would lead to marriage like some of their ‘senior colleagues.’ Neo even had a lavish romantic birthday surprise for Vee last year.
Although neither of these ex lovers confirmed their breakup, unfollowing and blocking people on social media is one of the widely speculated ways to ascertain the crash of a relationship or if people are no longer friends.
So yes, Vee and Neo no longer follow each other on the photo and video sharing platform, Instagram. Neo has since remained silent about the rumoured split but on January 3, 2022, Vee berated her ‘shippers’ for being nosy and said she wasn’t going to confirm or deny if their relationship had hit the rocks.
However, judging from the non-existent public display of affection (PDA), it’s safe to say they won’t be spending this year’s Valentine’s Day together.
2. Kaffy and Joseph Ameh
Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known by her stage name Kaffy, is a Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and fitness coach.
Kaffy announced earlier in January to the shock of many, that her 9-year marriage to estranged husband, Joseph Ameh who is a singer, music director and drummer had come to an end. The marriage which took place June 2, 2012 has produced two kids.
While sharing her story, the dancer revealed that her marriage did not work out the way she wanted; it did not give her room to start reacting to the problem. Kaffy said the divorce gave them a chance to grow. She said: “Taking the chance to break off our marriage was also to see that we both grow to become what we are supposed to be.”
3. Tochi and Chioma
Big brother Naija star cum rapper and real estate agent, Tochukwu Okechukwu ‘Tochi got many people gushing with ‘awwwn’s’ and ‘wow’s’ when he proposed to his abroad based girlfriend, Chioma. Tochi got down on one knee on Sunday, January 9 to propose to Chioma who thought she was merely going on a date with her boyfriend at an outdoor spot as a romantic jam by Chike Running to You was being played in the background. She excitedly said yes.
Things however took a drastic turn a few days after when his fiancée, Chioma shared a cryptic message on her Instagram story. She wrote:
“There is so much more to life than the attention/validation that you seek so much for from the outside world. But it’s not me that’s gonna be used to trend. Everybody rest in Jesus’ name.”
Soon after her post, the former BBN Naija housemate deleted the proposal videos from his Instagram page.
4. Ooni of Ife and Olori Silekunola
Queen Naomi Silekunola’s marriage to Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II crashed last December after 3years. The news of their marriage crash was announced on social media by Queen Naomi who shocked everyone with her statement. She simply stated that she was tired and had endured so much while trying to make their union work in the palace.
Queen Naomi disclosed that she had been struggling and had tried her best to make the marriage work to no avail.
“I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife” She had written on social media. Naomi further alleged the hypocrisy of the monarch, stating that Ooni’s public perception was different from his true character. She said the Ooni had a picture he wanted the world to see and another one which is his true self.
In response, the Palace claimed it was not aware of any separation between the Ooni and his queen, adding that her post was false and should not be taken seriously.
5. Alexx Ekubo and Fancy Acholonu
Nigerian US-based model, Fancy Acholonu, reportedly called off her engagement with popular Nollywood actor and model, Alexx Ekubo.
The couple who had kept their relationship out of public eye for years, officially announced their engagement in May, 2021.
However, 3 months down the line, both sparked break up rumours as they deleted all their couple pictures on their social media accounts. The couple’s joint IG account @falexxforever was also deleted on the same day. Recall, the traditional wedding between the former love birds had been scheduled to hold in November 20, 2021 at Imo state while the chruch wedding was slated for November 27, 2021 in Lagos state.
In announcing the break up, Fancy posted on Instagram saying
“Hey guys I am writing to inform you all officially that I have ended my relationship and I have called off the wedding with Alex Ekubo.”
Alexx Ekubo who is obviously spending Valentine’s Day as a single guy has taken to his Instagram and Twitter accounts to remind his followers of his single status and encourage them to send him any left overs that they get from their lovers today.
