The sequel to Funke Akindele-Bello’s movie ‘Omo Ghetto’ titled ‘Omo Ghetto The Saga’ has now maintained its spot as one of Nollywood’s greatest movies ever made as the movie emerged as the most-watched Naija title on Netflix.

Following its December 2020 release in cinemas across the country which was followed with so much excitement, the movie was released on Netflix the following year, in September of 2021.

Ninety-eight days after its release on Netflix, ‘Omo Ghetto The Saga’ has become the most-watched Naija title on Netflix, staying on Netflix’s top 10 list as the longest-running title for a Nollywood picture.

It is also important to note that the movie was named Africa’s highest-grossing film of 2020/21 at the META Cinema Conference in the United Arab Emirates in 2021.

The film stars Chioma Akpota, Nancy Isime, Eniola Badmus, Tina Mba, Bimbo Thomas, Deyemi Okanlawon, and Mercy Aigbe, among others, and tells the story of twin sisters who live different lives until a sequence of dramatic circumstances brings them together.

How ‘Omo Ghetto The Saga’ did in Box Office

The film grossed over 189 million in its first week of release, making it the first Nollywood film to ever gross over $99 million in its opening weekend, beating The Wedding Party 2’s previous record. The film continued to break box office records in its second week, generating over $132.4 million and securely maintaining its position at the top of the Nigerian box office, bringing its two-week revenue to a record-breaking $322 million, making it the fourth most grossing Nigerian film of all time.

Despite a 43 percent decline from the previous week, Omo Ghetto nevertheless led the box office in its third week, with $75.4 million, bringing its total to 398.5 million in just three weeks. Omo Ghetto was so popular in Nigeria that it accounted for nearly half of all box office in Nigeria.

Currently, the movie grossed over N500 million at the box office.
