The popular Nigerian theatre producer, Joseph Edgar also known as The Duke of Shomolu has revealed plans to bring a fascinating play about late Lateef Jakande‘s life and times to the stage at the Muson Centre.
The play according to the released statement will be performed at The Muson Centre’s Agip Recital Hall in collaboration with Frontline Real Estate Franchise Purple.
The play titled ‘Babakekere’ is written and directed by Makinde Adeniran. It provides a quick and exhilarating look at Alhaji Jakande’s historic tenor, borrowing inspiration from his inaugural speech, which encapsulated the goals and aspirations of Lagosians at the time and continues to amaze Nigerians today.
Makinde, who also directed and wrote the critically acclaimed Awo, will weave a suspenseful and penetrative theatre extravaganza that will evoke a nostalgic feeling in the audience as they are inspired by the vision that made Alhaji Jakande’s foray into education, housing, and health care a signpost of visionary leadership.
Meanwhile, at the Glover Hall Marina, a command performance of Babakekere, which is scheduled to host Mr. Sanwo-Olu and his cabinet, would be held, with the larger Jakande family, led by Hon Deji Jakande, in attendance.
