The Lagos State Government in an attempt to support the Nigerian movie industry has fulfilled part of its commitment to the industry, presenting a N200M loan cheque to 37 filmmakers.
This was met with huge excitement as many veterans in the industry were at the presentation of the cheque, including popular Nollywood veteran, Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello.
The event which was held at the Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos had the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf represent the Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu during the presentation of the cheques to 37 beneficiaries of the special interest-free loans to the filmmakers.
According to the statement, the loan program is meant to address the financial challenges the Nollywood industry face on quality film production in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
“This Initiative and presentation of cheques being done today is a testament to our commitment to ensure the potentials of the entertainment industry are realized.
“I congratulate the beneficiaries of this Initiative who are receiving their cheques. I am without doubt that your proposals and plans must have been really compelling and convincing to the committee.”
One of the beneficiaries of the program, Tunji Ojetola praised the governor and the ministry for the seamless process of the program.
“This is the first time a Government policy is well executed and the commendation should go to Mr. Governor and the Ministry.”
