Def Jam Africa, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group (UMG), has appointed Nigerian label executive, recording artist, and music producer, Larry Gaaga, Vice President, A&R.
Larry Gaaga will collaborate alongside Sipho Dlamini, CEO of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, to oversee the A&R division across English-speaking markets.
The Company disclosed in the release that Larry Gaaga’s team will be tasked with identifying and signing African continental talent that “speaks to and resonates with the defining culture and artistry of the Def Jam legacy.”
Larry began his career in 2010 at YSG Entertainment, where he worked his way up to General Manager. He made a career as a top A&R, artist, and also managed rapper Vector throughout his stint at YSG.
Also, Larry Gaaga has worked with a number of well-known artists, including Davido, Wizkid, D’banj, Tu Baba, Burna Boy, and Patoranking.
While speaking about his new position in the company, Larry Gaaga expressed excitement and also assure that his experience will contribute to the success of artists signed to the label.
“I’m excited at the opportunity I’ve been entrusted with here at Def Jam Africa.
“My experience as an artist and manager at the label, not only gives me a unique perspective to share with our talent but means I’m well versed in the spirit and culture of this legacy label.”
