Superstar Wizkid has become the Nigerian musician who has won the most awards at the BET Awards, after he copped the plaque for the ‘Best Collaboration’ at the just concluded year 2022 edition of the event.
Wizkid made his debut at BET Awards in 2012, when he won the award for ‘Best International Act’. He, again, won the award in 2017, making it twice.
The ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner also clinched the BET Her Award for his collaboration on Beyonce’s ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ which also features Blue Ivy Carter and Saint John.
Wizkid became the most decorated Nigerian artiste at the BET Awards on Sunday night, June 26, 2022, when his international track, ‘Essence’ remix featuring Tems and Justin Bieber beats other contenders in the ‘Best Collaboration’ category.
Other songs nominated alongside ‘Essence’ by Wizkid, Tems, and Justin Bieber included ‘Every Change I Get’ by DJ Khaled ft Lil baby and Lil Durk, ‘Family Ties’ by Baby Seem ft Kendrick Lamar; ‘Whole Lotta’ by Bia ft Nicki Minaj; ‘Way 2 Sexy’, Drake ft Future and Young Thug, and ‘Kiss me More’ by Doja Cat ft SZA.
Tems who received the 2022 BET Awards for ‘Best Collaboration’ on behalf of Wizkid stated the win is for Wizkid and Africa. She said a great thing is happening out of Africa while dedicating the award to Africa and Nigeria.
