Popular Nigerian Actress, Tonto Dikeh may have gotten a spanner in the wheel of her new-found political career following the commencement hearing of a suit to disqualify the Rivers State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Tonte Ibraye, at Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
Recall earlier, WITHIN NIGERIA reported on how the mother of one had revealed her intention to run for office as the deputy governor of Rivers state under the political party, ADC.
The controversial Actress who has been involved in series of controversies over the years – most notable her fight with her ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill and ex-bestie, Bobrisky, has spoken enthusiastically and optimistically of her plans to empower youth and women in Rivers State.
In the originating summons filed against the ADC, Mr. Ibraye and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the applicant, Dr. Wright Promise Warmate, a former Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, is seeking the disqualification of Mr. Ibraye for non-compliance with the party’s guidelines for the governorship primary.
According to Dr. Warmate, Ibraye failed to meet the party’s deadline in payment for his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
Dr. Warmate is hoping for his declaration as the lawful governorship candidate of the ADC for Rivers State, being the only aspirant that met the party’s deadline and conditions.
The matter has been reportedly adjourned to July 28, 2022, for an accelerated hearing.
