Tanzania-based Nigerian show promoter, Steven Uwa has made a u-turn after initially claiming that Singer Kizz Daniel refused to perform because he didn’t have his gold chain.
The music star was earlier arrested in Tanzania for not showing up at the concert he was paid to headline last Sunday.
But a few hours after his arrest on Monday, he was released from police custody.
On Tuesday, at a press conference to address the issues surrounding his absence from the event, the ‘Buga’ crooner said, “it was not intentional.” and promised to perform for free in Tanzania on Friday.
Clearing the air on his ‘Gold chain’ statement and other issues, Steve, who sat for an interview with Daddy Freeze, alongside Kizz Daniel’s brother, Uthman Anidugbe, disclosed that there were pressing technical issues that stopped the Nigerian singer from performing.
On Daddy Freeze’s question on why he claimed Kizz Daniel refused to perform because of his gold chain, Steve defended himself by saying “emotions were high that night.”
During the session, After the singer’s brother disclosed that he was not paid in full, Steven claimed that the $60,000 he said earlier was paid, was not paid to Kizz Daniel directly but to an agency managed by music executive, Paul Okoye.
The show promoter also admitted that the singer tried to salvage the situation and also meet with fans to apologize and postpone the show after arriving for the event 1 hour before his performance, following an 8-hour flight delay in Kenya.
According to him, the show promoters said there was no need for that as they would take care of it, but never did.
The Singer’s brother who revealed that the contract for the show allowed for it to be postponed, added that Kizz Daniel also offered to pay for a hall and for other things to ensure that the show was successful if postponed, which the show promoters agreed to.
In his defence, Steve admitted that they were trying not to have any issues with the authorities or sabotage the image of their business since they were just starting out as concert promoters.
According to him, he didn’t know how to explain to the fans that the concert had been postponed.
