Femi Kuti, an afrobeats musician and the son of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has given his reasons for not endorsing Peter Obi’s campaign for president of the Labour Party, and joining his supporters best known as the “Obidients.”
Saying in a video which he posted he said in parts;
“I did not call Peter Obi’s supporters zombies and personally, I cannot be Obidient in this country, ENDSARS, killings, my grandmother was killed, my father’s house burnt and I’m supposed to be Obidient? Did I call Peter Obi supporters zombie? Did I say that? No. What does Obidient mean? I don’t like that terminology for myself and I am never going to use it. Nothing can make me to be Obidient. I’m too angry, too sad, too depressed to be.
“Do I support Obi? No? I support Atiku definitely not. Do I support Tinubu? Please don’t look for my trouble. How can I be supporting Tinubu? Have I ever supported any political party? Never.”
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the singer was dragged online for allegedly calling the supporters of presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, Zombies.
Clearing the air he had this to say;
“You know what obedience means? Stand up, sit down, sit there — zombie. How can you be Obidient in this chaos? I am not Obidient. Tell me, at 60, why am I Obidient? You said I should be Obidient, sit down, be peaceful. Are you all okay in this country?”
Spelling out his position about the statement, Femi Kuti replied to the news outlet on Twitter, branding them as liars. “You are such liars. Of what benefit is it to the people when you take my words out of context like this?” he shared.
“I said I’m too angry at my age to be obedient. Expressing I do not like the ‘term’ But if Peter Obi wins and actually changes the country better for all of us,” the 60-year-old added.
