Veteran musician, Daddy Showkey, has reacted to the Nigeria Police’s’ decision to suspend two female supernumerary officers over a viral TikTok video.
The officers, Obaze Blessing and Obaze Emmanuella Uju, were suspended on Friday for misconduct and violation of social media policy.
According to the force public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi:
“They portrayed themselves in the viral video and other videos as undisciplined and unprofessional, in contravention of the Police Social Media Policy, with acts glorifying ill-gotten wealth and ill-morals, which has received wide condemnation from members of the public.”
Reacting, in an Instagram post, hours ago, Daddy Showkey said the suspension was uncalled for.
According to him, the female officers in the viral TikTok video were trying to make the police force look interesting as most youths are not “interested in joking about the force because many officers have demonised the force”. He said:
“What did these ladies do that is wrong? Sometimes we take action because we want to show we’re in a position of authority.
Our young people are not interested in joking about the police force because many officers have demonised the force.
“People are afraid when they see policemen and can’t even approach them when they have problems.
“These two ladies are trying to make the police interesting. They are trying to make people realise the force is not bad. I feel the suspension is uncalled for.”
