Talented musician Folarin Falana, profoundly called Falz, is confident that as Afrobeats reigns in the music industry doesn’t mean that rap music is dead in Nigeria.
Falz disclosed he has concerns for Nigerian rap music because it is a genre he loves dearly, but a part of him is sure that the rap genre will not go to extinction.
The wordsmith stipulated that the sub-genre of Afrobeats is temporarily distracting musicians. However, rap music will find its way back to the top. Falz noted it takes only a few rap songs to be released for music listeners realise rap is still solid.
“It makes me deeply concerned because it’s an art I very much love, and it’s an art that I will always love. But to be honest with you, I’m not even all that concerned because a certain part of me has a level of confidence that it can never really go anywhere.
“There might be downtimes, but there are some genres that are so strong in themselves, and they can never go anywhere,” Falz said in a conversation with AudioMack.
Falz opined that rap music would return soon. “I think [it] takes a couple of tracks to be released under that genre to then become popular for people to go back and say, “Come, this genre dey oh.”
“It’s just because recently a lot of people have been distracted by other sub-genres of Afrobeats. I know that there’ll still be that sway. People will still sway back [to rap], and it’s probably even gonna happen very soon.”
